DESIGNING BEYOND CLINICAL
When Rough Patch approached us, it was clear from the outset that this was more than just another project. They were on a mission to change how Australia approaches mental health care by amplifying voices that are often overlooked or unheard. We saw this as an opportunity to craft a digital presence that not only informed but inspired – one that made people feel seen, supported, and safe.
From the start, we knew that the website needed to break away from the cold, clinical look so often associated with mental health services. The goal was to create a space that felt calm, welcoming, and affirming.
We focused on color and typography that conveyed warmth and inclusivity, choosing calming tones and gentle fonts that felt approachable rather than institutional. Throughout the site, we wove in storytelling elements to help visitors understand not just what the service does, but why it matters. Clear, compassionate messaging invited users to engage at their own pace, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment.
The layout was designed to be intuitive and uncluttered, guiding users through the information with minimal friction. We paid particular attention to accessibility, ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, could find what they needed and feel at home on the site.
THE RESULT
The final website is a reflection of the client’s mission: a safe, supportive space that champions mental health care as a community-driven, socially conscious practice. Visitors are met with a design that immediately signals, ‘You’re in the right place. You matter here.’
This project was particularly meaningful to us because we took it on as a volunteer effort. We believed deeply in Rough Patch’s mission and wanted to contribute our skills to help bring their vision to life. Feedback from both the client and their community has been overwhelmingly positive. The website’s clarity and accessibility have also made it easier for people to find what they need, whether that’s booking a session, learning more about Rough Patch’s mission, or simply feeling seen and supported.
